Last weekend, we were in heaven listening to the Bach Collegium Japan’s performance of Bach’s “Mass in B Minor.” Last night, we came crashing back to earth with a giant THUD when several key singers were absent from the fourth choral rehearsal of this same work. But why did they all have to be from the same section?! That’s a hard reality! Unfortunately when Carl said that choristers could miss up to two rehearsals, people have taken that to mean it’s a free pass. Every rehearsal is important as there are only six choral rehearsals on this massive work before we break for Holy Week and Easter. I wonder if we will ever have a rehearsal with everyone there?
On the way home from rehearsal, Carl said, “Next week, there will be no more note-banging on the piano. People are going to have to take the responsibility of learning this music!”
Here’s the updated rehearsal schedule. I hope next week will be better!
